Marguerite Hile Stewart, age 96 of Lima, died at 10:18 a.m., Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at Otterbein-Cridersville Skilled Nursing.
Marguerite was born July 27, 1916, to Charles & Jenny (Burden) Baker (deceased) in Cridersville, OH. On August 6, 1938, she married Rollin H. Hile who after 61 years of marriage died January 9, 1999 at age 88. On April 3, 2004, she married George C. Stewart who survives in Lima.
She was for 57 years a member of Shawnee Community United Methodist Church and prior to that was a member of First United Methodist in Wapakoneta. A 1934 graduate of Cridersville High School, she was active as a thespian in the school class plays and was a starting guard on the Lady Rams basketball team.
Marguerite retired from the Lima Excello Corporation and enjoyed spending winters in Florida. She and Rollin were charter members of the Shawnee Lions Club. She was an avid fan of harness horse racing and enjoyed ‘going to the dogs.’
Attending reunions with classmates and being with family was a highlight of her many years. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed displaying her picture collection of ‘her kids’ to anyone who would see them.
She was preceded in death by two infant brothers, a half-brother Holland Baker, brothers George Baker and Charles ‘Bill’ Baker, and sisters Bietrice Baker, Lydema Stout and Mary Hollar.
She is survived by son James R. (Dianne) Hile of Lima, a stepdaughter Jo (Glenn) Derryberry of Lima and a stepson Greg (Nan) Stewart, Atlanta, GA. Grandchildren Lisa (Scott) Moening, Cuyahoga Falls, OH, and James R. ‘Jay’ (Melissa) Hile II of Lima, Tyler Derryberry, Boston, MA, Corey Derryberry, Orlando, FL, and Chelsea Stewart, Atlanta, GA.; great grandchildren Joseph and Samuel Moening, Gabriel and Isabella Hile, and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will begin 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 1, 2012 at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville. The Rev. Charlotte Hefner will officiate. Burial will follow in Shawnee Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home.
