Martha departed this world for heaven at 9:45 a.m. on November 1, 2016, at her home in Bellefontaine, Ohio with her loving family at her side. GOD has welcomed her into the kingdom of heaven and has prepared a place for her for all of eternity where there is no more sorrow, no more tears, and no more pain.
Born in Jackson, Michigan, July 31, 1940, to her loving parents, Gladys & Frederick Wells, Martha moved to Marysville, Ohio when she was 9 years old. She graduated from Northwestern High School in 1958. She worked many years in healthcare and was previously employed at the Ohio Reformatory for Women.
Martha will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother with a kind heart while welcoming 22 foster children into her home over several years. Besides reading and crafts, Martha loved to write and play country music. She wrote a song titled “Possessions” that Loretta Lynn recorded on her “Entertainer of the Year” album.
She is preceded in death by her loving late husband, Charles Terry Baker of 39 years, her parents, Gladys & Frederick Wells, her sisters, Mary Lee Chapman & Eunice Lee, her brothers, Denver & Bill Wells, and her daughter, Mary Edwards.
She is survived by her two sisters, Beth (Bob) Koch and Lydia (Eloy) Abeyta of Las Vegas, four daughters, Marlea Baker, Linda (John) Heath, and Dorothy (Joe) Baker of Bellefontaine, Angela (David) MacLeod of Bellingham, Washington, two sons, Charles (Chuck,C.T.) (Debbie) Baker of Galloway, Dennie (Marcina) Baker of Kenton. Also a brother-in-law Jimmy (Louise) Gordon and a sister-in-law Sandy Salyers.
Martha married Richard Shape of Russells Point, Ohio, on October 31, 2007 who passed in 2015. They are survived by his three children and their families. Jerry (Susan) Shape of Lakeview, Nancy (Jim) Verne of Columbus, and Steve (Dawn) Shape of Columbus.
She is also survived by numerous grandchildren to include: Tracy (Nathan) Gregg, Tom (Katie) Coy, Bo Wilgus, Alec (Bre) Heath, Aaron (Pam) Baker, Stacey Baker, Kandie Baker, David (Sarah) Baker, Justin (Brittany) Baker, Josh, Tasha (Chad) Heydinger, Ben (Lesley) Miller, Kaleb Howard, Emma Campbell, Dakota Tomlin and many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and her church family.
Martha’s favorite bible verse is; “In all things God works for the good of those who love him, and have been called according to his purpose”. Romans 8:28.
At her request, no funeral services will be held. Family and friends will celebrate her life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Universal Home Health and Hospice of Logan County.
