Mary E. Emig, age 87, of Columbus and formerly of Lima, died at 7:33 p.m., Wednesday, June 22, 2016, in Columbus at Kobacker House (hospice). She was born February 11, 1929, in Lima, Ohio; to the late John W. and Elizabeth E. Harrod Haver. On December 23, 1960, she married Kenneth Ray Emig, who died April 9, 2016.
Mrs. Emig co-owned, along with her husband, several businesses, including K.R. Emig Spouting and Roofing and Chatter Inn. She worked in many restaurants including The Old Barn Out Back, Lickity Split and Western Sizzlin’. At age 50 she was proud to earn her GED. She was president of the Muscular Dystrophy Allen County Chapter for several years. Mary enjoyed reading, gardening, cooking, traveling, playing games and little children. She was Granny to everyone.She collected elephants and cook books. She enjoyed her monthly Bunco group, travelling to Lima to spend time with her friends. She loved serving others.
She is survived by 4 daughters – Kitty V. (Jerry) Rolston of Cridersville; Shelley R. Emig (Joseph) Hutson of Eugene, Oregon; Bonny D. (Donald) Doute of Lima; Merry Christine (Dana) McCain of Columbus; daughter of her heart – Loretta Engel;12 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends.
She was preceded in death by a daughter – Maralee Goble; 4 brothers – Wilmer T. Haver, Charles M. Haver, Ross B. Haver and James L. Haver; 2 sisters – Samantha Stoddard and Pearl L. Cash Lancaster; step-father – Raymond Dale Hirt.
Memorial services will begin at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 26 at New Faith Missionary Church on 1660 Lutz Rd.
Rev. Rick Hart will officiate. Burial of the cremated remains will be in Fletcher Cemetery on a later date.
The family will receive friends after the service at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Kobacker House (Ohio Health Hospice) or Mt. Carmel Hospice Foundation.
