Melvin E. Hiller, age 76, of Lima died 5:00 p.m., Thursday November 13 at St. Rita’s Medical Center. He was born Oct. 26, 1938 in Courtright, Ontario to the late Wilbert Horatio and Gertie Louisa Ward Hiller. He married Karen Michael May 12, 1962 and she survives in Lima.
Mr. Hiller served in the U.S. Navy during Korea and was a member of the American Legion and the V. F. W. He retired from the Ford Motor Company where he had been an electrician. He also was a licensed engineer and general contractor. He was a former member of the Eagles and Elks and enjoyed boating and golfing. He was proud of his family and was the original good man.
Additional survivors include a son Shawn (Amy) Hiller of Hilliard, a daughter: Heather Hiller (John) Crough of Powell, 6 grandchildren: Scott, Mark, Christina and Matthew Hiller and Emily and Johnny Crough, 3 brothers: Lawrence Wilbert (Patricia Ann (D) Hiller, Bernard ‘Bud’ Carl Ward (Jean (D) Hiller and Arnold Ward Hiller and 10 sisters: Irene (D)(Irvin) Telfer (D), Helene (D)(Donald) Barnes, Loraine Shaw, Shirley (Leslie) Wamboldt, Miza (Bob (D) Taylor, Sadie (D)(Harold(D) Ashburn, Vivian (Edward (D) Cooper, Evelyn (Bob) Newstead, Linda (D) (Kenneth) Boyle and Veda (Kenneth) Swanton, brothers and Sisters-in-law: David (D)(Sharon) Michael, Derry Michael (D), Patrick Michael (D), Jim Michael, Lana (Lloyd (D) Adkins, Tom (Evelyn) Holliday and Jonnie (D)(Maude)Holliday and mother-in-law Anna Louise Holliday (D), and many many loved nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19 at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville. The memorial service will follow immediately with Pastor Jonathan Spyker officiating. Military rites will be observed by V.F.W. Post 8445 of Wapakoneta.
