Melvin Junior Hardesty, age 90, of Cridersville passed away Monday afternoon, June 13, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. He was born Jan. 6, 1926 in Allentown, Ohio to the late Melvin L. and Clara Harrod Hardesty. He was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Mary LaVonne Hardesty.
Melvin is survived by 5 children: Pamela Weaver of Cridersville, Tim (Erika) Hardesty of Santa Fe, Ohio, Denny (Vickie) Hardesty of Byrdstown, TN, Mark (Vicki) Hardesty of Lima, Tom (Pati) Hardesty of Spencerville, 12 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, a sister-in-law Vera Stillings of Lakeview and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son-in-law Craig Weaver and a granddaughter Emily Hardesty Lehman, 2 brothers and 3 sisters.
He was a WW II Army Veteran having served in both theaters. He was a member of Lima Baptist Temple and had been a member of S.O.W.E.R.S. International for 8 years. Melvin enjoyed camping, fishing, boating, hunting and spending time with family. Melvin retired in 1985 from Standard Oil after 38 years.
The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Thursday, June 16 at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville. The funeral will be 1:00 p.m., Friday June 17 at the funeral home with Pastors Al Elmore and Gary Hohman officiating. Burial will follow the service in Maplewood Cemetery near Spencerville.
