Mildred I. Goodenow, age 96 an Otterbein-Cridersville resident since August 25, 1991, died at 1:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 27, 2010 in Lima Memorial Health Care. She was born July 16, 1914 in Cridersville, Ohio. She is the daughter of Elias Albert and Macie Ethel Wolfe Umbaugh. On March 18, 1934 she married Wilbur Goodenow, who died December 4, 1986. Then on April 25, 1992 she married George Fehlman who died January 18, 2000.
Survivors include 2 sons – Dennis (Kathy) Goodenow of Lawrenceville,Georgia; Gary (Shari) Goodenow of Milford, Michigan; 1 daughter – Peggy Lemaux of Moraga, California; 6 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by 2 brothers – Donovan Gale Umbaugh and Charles Leslie Umbaugh.
Mrs. Goodenow was a homemaker, had worked as a grocery clerk, and was a cafeteria worker with the Shawnee School system from 1957 – 1992. She was a member of the South Side Christian Church and belonged to their Mary Martha Class, the Mary Circle and was a librarian. She had been Sunday School teacher for the nursery, taught the Jr. High grades for 12 years, the adult class for 4 years, and a Sunday School Superintendent. She was a member of the Christian Woman’s Foundation where she had been Vice President for 2 years and President for 2 years. She was confirmed in and a former member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church.
She was a graduate of Shawnee High School. She joined the YWCA in 1969 where she worked at the “Corner Cup-Board”. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Funeral Services will begin 2:00 p.m., Sunday, October 31, 2010 at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville. The Rev. Doug Adams and Rev. Wonda Working will officiate. Burial will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 1, 2010 in St. Matthew Cemetery, near Cridersville.
The family will receive friends one hour prior service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to South Side Christian Church or Otterbein-Cridersville Retirement Center.
