Naomi A. Mertz, age 88, of Cridersville died 4:01 p.m., Wed. Jan. 12, 2011 at Lima Memorial Health Systems. She was born Jan. 18, 1922 in Lima to Ernest Clinton and Ila Staley Bailey. She married Robert E. Mertz June 7, 1941 and he preceded her in death June 14, 2002.
Survivors include 2 sons: Michael L. (Shirley) Mertz of Bellefontiane and Steven A. (Shirley) Mertz of Cridersville, 8 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; 3 sisters: Ila Pauline Newland of Seminole, FL, Kathryn “Kit’ (Pat) Riley of Cridersville and Yvonne (John) Stratton of Apache Junction, CO.
She was preceded in death by a son Robert E. Mertz, Jr., a brother John Bailey and 4 sisters: Esther White, Bernice Crissinger, Marie Jean Bailey and Juanita Myers.
Mrs. Mertz was a member of Cridersville United Methodist Church, had retired from Pangles Master Markets and had been a volunteer for Lima Memorial Hospital and Otterbein Cridersville.
The family will receive friends 2-4 Sunday at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville.
The funeral service will be 1:30 p.m., Monday Jan. 17 at the funeral home with Rev. Jerry Wiles and Rev. Rick Adams officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima.
Memorial contributions may be given to Cridersville United Methodist Church or Lima Memorial Hospital Cancer Unit.
