Niles D. “Bud” Smith, age 83, of Cridersville, died at 6:24 a.m., Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at Otterbein-Cridersville Skilled Care Facility. He was born February 28, 1928 in Cridersville, Ohio. He is the son of Benjamin and Wanda Spyker Smith. Both parents are deceased. On January 30, 1948 he married Betty Joan Miller, who died July 16, 2006.
Mr. Smith was a retired accountant with Standard Oil/Vistron of Lima. He was also a realtor with Holmes Reality. He was a 1946 graduate of Cridersville High School and then went on to graduate from Northwest Business College with an accounting degree. He was a member of the Cridersville United Methodist Church. He was a former board member with the Beacon Credit Union and was an avid exerciser with the Lima YWCA exercise club.
Survivors include a son – Johnny S. (Barbara) Smith of Oakland, TN; 2 daughters – Michele R. “Micki” (Paul) Neeley of Leesville, SC; Natalie L. Johnson of Lima; 9 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a grandson – David Smith and a sister – Lois Leiberick.
Funeral services will begin 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 3, 2011 at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville. The Rev. Jerry Wiles will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Matthew Cemetery, near Cridersville.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Thursday, June 2, 2011 at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be given to Cridersville Rescue Squad or Otterbein-Cridersville Skilled Care.
