Opal Mae (Laing) Hinegardner (known as “Grandma Chickie” to her grandkids) 91, died at 2:42 p.m., April 8, 2015, at her home with her sons at her bedside.
She was born May 11, 1923, in Allen County to Charles and Glenna (Fickle) Laing, who preceded her in death.
Opal worked at Westinghouse, Leader, Greggs, and Sears. Opal and Bill shared 69 wonderful years of marriage before his passing in 2008. Her grandchildren, family and friends were very important to her and she loved spending time with them. She enjoyed baking, cooking, sewing and her extensive quilt collection. She enjoyed and took much pleasure in her gardening – canning, freezing and sharing her harvest with family and friends.
Survivors include – three sons – William D. (Doris) Hinegardner of Dayton, Richard L. (Martha) Hinegardner of Lima, Dan C. (Pat) Hinegardner of Wapakoneta, daughter-in-law Sue Hinegardner of Wapakoneta; sister – Mildred Allen of California, 15 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren,2 sisters-in-law, Dot Laing and Fairie Edminston, both of Lima.
She was preceded in death by her son Donald R. Hinegardner, sisters and brothers-in-law Bernice (Russell) Roeder, Edna Lowe, Suzie (Scott) Stewart, brothers and sister-in-laws Roy (Easter) Laing, Charles Laing, Elzie (Norma) Laing, and Fred Edmiston.
Private family services were held in her home.
