Orlefa LeNora Sands Loyer age 94, of Cridersville died 6:53 a.m., Sat. Jan. 30, 2010 at Otterbein Cridersville. She was born in Cridersville June 12, 1915 to Jacob H. and Louella Shaffer Sands and raised by Edward and Bertha Arthur after the death of her mother in 1921.
Orlefa was a 1933 graduate of Cridersville High School, she married her high school sweet heart, Paul F. Loyer on November 5, 1933. They had celebrated their 74th anniversary in 2007. He preceded her in death March 27, 2008. She was a homemaker, helped farm and exhibit Belgian horses. She also was a supervisor in the cafeteria at Shawnee School and had worked at Jocobs China Company.
She was a member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, it’s Deborah, Rachel Circles, the Cemetery Board, and former member of the Alter Guild. She was active in the American Lutheran Women as vice-president and president of the Western Conference A.L.C.W. and had served as treasurer of the Ohio district A.L.C.W. She was a member of the Cridersville Historical Society, the Ohio State Belgian Draft Horse Assoc., American Belgian Assoc, National Percheron Assoc. and former member of the Shelby County Draft Horse Assoc. She was a former secretary of the Eastern States Draft Horse Sale and employee of the Ohio State Fair entry office for 13 years during the fair. She served many years on the Shawnee Township Zoning Board of Appeals.
Mrs. Loyer is survived by 2 daughters: Carolyn (James) Michael of Lima and Nancy (William) Recker of Findlay, 11 grand Children, 23 great grandchildren and 2 great great granddaughters, 2 sister-in-laws Ruth Thomas and Martha Beery, of Lima.
The family will receive friends 2 -8 p.m., Tuesday Feb. 2 at Bayliff &Son Funeral Home, Cridersville. The funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Wed. at the funeral home and burial will follow at St. Matthew Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to Cridersville Historical Society or St. Matthew Lutheran Church.
