Phillip P. Orpurt, age 79 of L ima, passed at 10:56 a.m., Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at Lima Memorial Hospital. He was born May 7, 1941 in Peru, Indiana to the late William Clarence and Nellie Elizabeth Dawson Orpurt, Jr. On November 2, 1962 he married Doris M. Pummell Beckett who passed on November 10, 2017.
He retired from the City of Lima Water Department. After graduating from Lima Senior High School he joined the U. S. Navy. Following his time in the Navy he started working at Superior Coach Corporation, then at JJL Automotive, and also helped managed the Sharon, Springbrook, and Gloria Drive-Ins. Phil’s hobbies included deer hunting in South Dakota, wood working, visiting the casinos, and always trying his luck at Cash Exposion.
Surviving are 3 sons – John (Teresa) Beckett of Cridersville; Phil Orpurt, Jr. of Findlay, William ‘Willie’ Orpurt of Lima; 4 daughters – Kyle JoAnn (Mike) Graham of Vaughnsville; Vera (Bob) Neth of Rimer; Sandy (Eric) Youngpeters of Wapakoneta; Phillis (Jeff) Cowan of Lima; 16 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; 2 sisters – Elizabeth A. (Ross) Hunt of Wapakoneta; Mary L. (Dick, deceased) Painter of Lima; a sister-in-law – Shirley Orpurt of Cleveland; numerous nieces and nephews; and his faithful dog buddy – Max.
He was preceded in death by a son – Kyle Edward ‘Ed’ Beckett, Jr.; 3 brothers – Dennis D. Orpurt, Lenny Orpurt, Robert L. Orpurt; and infant sisters – Rebecca Belle Orpurt and Francis Kay Orpurt.
Private family services will be held at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville.
Burial will be 11:30 a.m., Monday, February 1, 2021 at Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima with military rites by the Lima V.F.W. Post 1275 .
