Richard C. “Dick” Frey, age 77 of Lima, died at 6:28 p.m., Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at home surrounded by his family. He was born May 15, 1940 in Lima, Ohio to the late Oliver and Wilma Baxter Frey. On August 22, 1964 he married Nancy Stombaugh, who survives.
Mr. Frey retired from BP Chemical and continued working with them as a consultant. His job took him to complete work in Germany, Korea, China, Holland, Japan, Texas, Kentucky, and Cleveland. In 1958 he graduated from Shawnee High School in 1958 and continued his education at Bowling Green State University and graduated in 1962 with a B.S. in Chemistry.
He enjoyed flowers, landscaping and acquiring knowledge and experience while growing up in the family flower business – Frey’s Flowers and Greenhouse. He had a great love for history, especially the Civil War. Dick & Nancy loved taking trips together, especially the fishing trips to Mindemoya, Ontario, Canada for more than 50 years. Many of his trips were centered around historical sites always wanting to learn more. In his early years he like to hunt. He was a big Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Indians, and Cleveland Cavs fan.
He was a member of the Lafayette Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church. His biggest joy was his family which he had an immense love for. He will be remembered for being a trusted friend and confidant.
Survivors also include a son – Jerry (Carla) Frey of Harrod; 2 grandsons – Parker (Breanna) Frey of Oxford, Oh; Carter Frey at home; a brother-in-law – Ted (Joanne) Stombaugh of Findlay; a niece Paula (Marty) Vernick of Texas; a nephew – Wayne Stombaugh of Missouri.
Funeral services will begin 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 10, 2018 at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville. Rev. Robin Ramos will officiate. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Lafayette Zion Lutheran Church or St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital.
