Richard Dana Gesler, Jr., age 84 of Lima and formerly of Wapakoneta, died 9:54 a.m., Sunday, April 6, 2014 at St. Rita’s Medical Center. He was born October 17, 1929 in Uniopolis, Auglaize County, Ohio; to the late Richard Dana Gesler, Sr. and Lucile Jeanette Metzger Gesler.
Mr. Gesler was a retired electrical engineer. He graduated in 1949 from Blume High School. He then went to serve in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War where he was a communication specialist in Germany. After serving in the war he went to California and studied engineering and chemistry at Stanford University.
He is survived by Neva Gesler Painter of Lima and their children – Rodney (Nancy) Gesler of Lima and Mark Gesler of Lima; grandchildren – Ginger Gibson, Janelle (Shawn) McKee; Brian Gesler; Stephanie Sands; a great grandson – Hayden McKee; three brothers – James (Angie) Gesler of Columbus; William (Linda) Gesler of Indiana; Paul (Vickie) Gesler of Bluffton; and his beloved pet “Sassy Cat”.
Memorial services will begin 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 10, 2014 at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville. Pastor James C. Couser will officiate.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Matthew Lutheran Church.
