Richard E. ‘Dick’ Stevens, Sr., age 77 of Wapakoneta, died at 1:16 a.m., Friday, June 18, 2010 in Lima, Ohio. He was born July 2, 1932 in Spencerville, Ohio the son of Jesse P. and Dorothy Fern Thomas Stevens. Both parents are deceased. On January 12, 1951 he married Twila A. Candler who survives.
Other survivors include 1 son – Richard E. (Karen) Stevens, Jr. of Celina; 2 daughters – Cheryl A. Stevens of Wapakoneta; Teresa Lyn (Anthony) Allen of Wapakoneta; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 6 brothers – Charles J. (Shirley Ann) Stevens of Lima; Gregory A. (Yvonne) Stevens of Wapakoneta; Bill J. (Barbara) Stevens of Lima; Larry J. (Sharon) Stevens of North Carolina; John D. Stevens of South Carolina; Barry B. (Nikki) Stevens of Wapakoneta; 3 sisters – Marlene A. (Albert) McKee of St. Marys; Kay E. VanLoo of Wapakoneta; Dorothy K. (Barry) Swallow of Lima.
He was preceded by a son – David A. Stevens who died March 6, 1994; 3 brothers – Gene L. Stevens, Thomas M. Stevens, and Michael L. Stevens.
Mr. Stevens had retired from Ford Motor Company and had served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was a Past Master of the Royal Arch Mason Ada Lodge and a member of the Hamer Lodge 167, Free and Accepted Masons, and received his 50 year pin. He was also a member of the Accepted Order of the Scottish Rite, Valley of Dayton. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 8445 of Wapakoneta, the American Legion Post of Wapakoneta; and the Eagles of Wapakoneta.
Mr. Stevens loved life, enjoyed antiquing, wood working, building furniture, and hunting. He took pleasure in talking about history and politics. He loved the outdoors, nature, and working with flowers, trees, and vegetables. Most of all Dick loved spending time with his family and had many good laughs with friends.
Funeral services will begin 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 21, 2010 in Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville. Rev. D. Lynn Fox will officiate. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery, north of Uniopolis. Military rites will be observed by the V.F.W. Post 8445 of Wapakoneta.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Sunday, at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville.
Masonic services will be conducted at 8:00 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home by the Hamer Lodge 167, Free and Accepted Masons.
Memorial contributions may be give to the American Cancer Society.
