Richard Lamar Roebuck, age 80 of Lima, died 7:57 a.m., Monday, December 10, 2012 at St. Rita’s Medical Center. He was born April 11, 1932 in Defiance, Ohio to Rev. Garrison and Jocie Archer Roebuck who preceded him in death. On June 12, 1955, he married Sally A. Hickernell, who died suddenly October 8, 2007.
Mr. Roebuck retired in 1992 as an Audit Supervisor with the state of Ohio. Prior to that he owned and operated an independent insurance agency. He had been a member of The Lima Baptist Temple and the Auditorium Bible Class. He was affiliated with St. Rita’s Hospice as a volunteer for 20 years. His mission there was to be a companion to terminally ill patients while the caregiver was away from home. During the past 13 years he was also affiliated with the St. Rita’s Patient Relations Department as a volunteer and he had many memorable experiences visiting patients the young and old alike. In some respects this experience had been the most rewarding work of his entire life. It had been estimated that over the 13 year period if the average number of visits per week at the hospital had only been 30 patients the total could have been upwards of 19,500 individuals. For most of his adult life Mr. Roebuck had many, many privileges and opportunities of trying to encourage others during their trials, troubles and tribulations. He had a love for people regardless of their station in life. He enjoyed telling others that Jesus Christ had been a wonderful savior to him. He enjoyed telling others of HIS mercy and grace.
