Richard E. ‘Dick’ Long 84, of Lima died 11:55 a.m., Monday, October 26, 2009 at his residence. He was born Dec. 15, 1924 in Lima to Frank and Hazel Belcher Long. He married Evelyn Jean Geise May 9, 1946 and she survives in Lima.
Mr. Long had been a maintenance mechanic at Standard Oil and BP. He was a member of First Church of God at the Crossroads, served in the U. S. Army during WW II, was a former councilman and Mayer of Ft. Shawnee for two terms. He was a 1942 graduate of Shawnee High School. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, working outdoors watching the Cincinnati Bengals and Fox News. He loved Thursday night card night with the family.
Additional survivors include 3 sons: Richard F. (Cathy) Long of Beaverdam, Warren E. (Kathy) Long of Elida, Daniel M. (Mary) Ling of Sidney; 2 daughters: Linda (Ray) Waxman of Lima and Joan (Stats) Mader of Nashville, OH 9 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren; a brother: Charles (Rosie) Long of Benton Harbor, MI and a sister-in-law Helen Long.
The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Wednesday at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville.
The funeral service will begin 10:30 a.m., Thursday at the funeral home with Rev. Charles Long officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima. Military rites by V. F. W. Post 691
