Robert E. George, age 76 of Lakeview, died at 11:15 a.m., Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at St. Rita’s Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was born September 20, 1933 in North Baltimore, Ohio. He is the son of Wilbur and Esther Mortison George. Both parents are deceased. On November 15, 1954 he married Sylvia Theresa Benedetto, who died May 15, 1998.
Mr. George was a retired hydraulic machinist mechanic with Ford Motor Company, Lima Engine Plant for 30 years. He was a U.S. Air force Veteran, serving in Korea War. He was a member of the Cable Road Alliance Church. He was a life time member of the V.F.W. Post 1275 of Lima; a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Indian Lake Lodge 2146, and the American Legion Harold Kerr Post #173 of Bellefontaine. He enjoyed shopping, cooking, working in the yard and building things. He treasured spending time with his grandchildren. He loved the holidays, especially Christmas.
Survivors include 1 son – Mark R. George of Lakeview; 1 daughter – Jackie Good of Lakeview; 7 grandchildren – Theresa, Bobby, Shauna, Greg, Richie, Troy, and Nicholas; 15 great grandchildren; 4 brothers – Richard George of Lima, Ronald George of Lima; and Roger George of Florida, and Rex Shephard of Lima.
Memorial services will begin at 4:00 p.m., Thursday, April 22, 2010
at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville. The Chaplain Dick Coon will officiate. Military rites will be observed by V.F.W. Post 1275 of Lima.
The family will receive friends two hours prior to services at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Rita’s Medical Center Hospice Program.
