Robert Gene McBeth, age 85, of Cridersville, was sang home to glory at 3:09 p.m., Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at St. Rita’s Medical Center. He was born January 11, 1935 in Lima, Ohio to the late C.R. and Winona Mason McBeth. On April 21, 1957 he married Hope Ann Hahn, who survives.
Gene graduated in 1953 from Lima Central High School and was drafted into the U.S. Army, 3rd Division. After his service in the Army, he became an officer with the Lima Police Department and retired as an ID officer. He then went to work at General Dynamics and where he retired. He was a very dedicated Christian and a member of the Central Christian Church. He was involved in the church and also served as a Deacon. His hobbies included photography and anything cars, especially NASCAR and going to car shows.
Also surviving is a daughter – Melodie (Wayne) Metzger of NC; 4 grandchildren – Micah (Joy) Metzger; Pastor Matthew (Samantha) Metzger; Tiffany (Josh) Brine; and Jason (Lindsay) Metzger; 9 great grandchildren – Cameron Metzger; Cassidy Metzger; Callen Metzger; Sebastian Metzger; Keenan Metzger; Scarlet Metzger; Jeremiah Brine; Everli Metzger; and Luci Metzger; as well as a niece and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son – Robert Gene McBeth, Jr. and a sister – Gerry Loughlin.
Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, December 12, 2020 at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville. Rev. Matthew Metzger will officiate. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima. Military rites will be observed by V.F.W. Post 1275 of Lima.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
