Robert L. Burgess, age 92, a lifelong resident of Perry Township, passed at 8:18 p.m., Saturday, October 13, 2018 at Lima Memorial Hospital. He was born to the late Harry Luther and Louella Florence Rehm Burgess. On November 23, 1947 he married Ruth J. Dackin, who survives.
Mr. Burgess was a farmer who loved nature, the fall time of the year, and taking drives looking at the beautiful colors. He had been very active in Perry Township; serving as the clerk for several years, was a zoning inspector, drove school bus, a volunteer with the Perry Fire Department for many years, and a 4-H advisor for over 20 years. His passion was fishing and after retirement went to East Twin Lake and Lake LaVain in Michigan. He lived and worked for his family whom he loved more than anything, spending time with.
Also surviving are 2 sons – Daniel R. (Paula) Burgess of Cridersville; Dale Alan (Kari L.) Burgess of Cridersville; 1 daughter – Deborah J. Fox of Lima; 8 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; a sister-in-law – LaVerta (James) Dackin of Lima; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son – Christopher Alan Burgess; a son-in-law – David Fox; a grandson – John Christopher DeMoss; a brother – John Howard burgess; and a sister – Anna Mary Naas.
Funeral services will begin 12:00 p.m., Friday, October 19, 2018 at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville. Pastor Tim Benjamin will officiate. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery, near Uniopolis.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.
