Robert L. Kuehl, age 89 of Wapakoneta, died at 8:21 a.m., Thursday, June 28, 2018 at Lima Memorial Hospital. He was born October 31, 1928 in Delphos, Ohio; to the late Alvie and Olivia Kerchner Kuehl. On March 18, 1950 he married May K. Mertz, who preceded him in death on April 11, 2015.
Mr. Kuehl was a WW II U. S. Army Veteran and a devoted family man cherishing the many memories of his family. Family reunions and holiday gatherings were very important to him and he cherished those memories.
Robert was a journeyman electrician for Lima Ford Engine plant retiring after 39 years of service. One of his greatest pleasures was coaching the Cridersville Reds Little League baseball team during the 60’s and early 70’s. He, along with many others volunteered years of service in building a baseball program in Cridersville which became locally recognized as a powerhouse little league team within the surrounding county league.
He had great empathy for helping other. Many of his great pleasures were outdoor recreations, hunting, camping, and fishing on Klotz Lake Ontario Canada, boating the many water ways on the Merry Mist. He was an avid Cincinnati Reds fan and Ohio State Buckeyes fan.
Survivors include 3 sons – Daniel Kuehl of Lima; Karl Kuehl of Dublin, Ohio; Timothy (Andrea) Kuehl of Wapakoneta; a daughter – Sandra Winget of Wapakoneta; 11 grandchildren;
9 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; 2 sisters – Martha Bingham of Cridersville; and Annie Brooks of Lima.
He was preceded in death by a daughter – Susie Staley; a granddaughter – Pamela Staley Lange; a daughter-in-law – Cheryl Kuehl; 2 brothers – John Kuehl; Arnold ‘Bill’ Kuehl and a sister – Tina Keel.
Services will begin 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 7, 2018 at Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima.
Father David Ross will officiate. Military rites will be observed by the V.F.W. Post 8445 of Wapakoneta.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
