Dr. Robert Lawrence Holladay, age 80 of Cincinnati and formerly of Lima, died February 21, 2013 in Cincinnati. He was born April 9, 1932 in Hillsboro, Ohio; the son of the late Clarence Carson and Helen Brown Holladay.
Dr. Holladay lived and practiced family medicine in Shawnee Township, from 1959 to 1995. Born in 1932 in Hillsboro, Ohio, he was raised by his aunts, Lena Holladay MD., Carrie Sanderson and Edith Holladay after his mother died when he was three years old. He spent time working on the family farm off Danville Pike and Holladay Rd. and in his Aunt Carrie’s Saddle Shop on High Street.
He graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1950, and from Ohio State University College of Medicine in 1958. While attending OSU, he met and married Lavonne Lynd Beard of Columbus. After medical school, Bob and Lavonne moved to Lima, with encouragement from Lavonne’s sister, Bettirae, and her husband, Rev. Robert Kimes, who at the time pastored local Methodist churches, including Shawnee and Cridersville. After completing an internship at St. Rita’s Hospital, Dr. Holladay established his Family Medicine practice in Elmview. He practiced Occupational Medicine as the company physician for SOHIO Chemical Co. (Vistron) for twenty years. He served as President of Lima-Allen Co Family Physicians, The Northwest Ohio Medical Society, Lima Network, Inc.(Affiliate of Health America/Maxicare), and the Allen County Medial Alliance. He was the owner of Lima Industrial Medical Associates, and editor of the State Alliance Magazine.
His hobbies include boating, reading, and photography. He greatly enjoyed spending time with his 6 grandchildren and creating greeting cards from Lavonne’s paintings. In retirement, Bob and Lavonne divided their time between traveling overseas, and living in Naples, FL, Lima, OH and Southwest Ohio.
Bob is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lavonne; sons Scott Raymond (Diane) Holladay of Little Rock AR, Lawrence Alan ‘Larry’ (Lori) Holladay of Ft Thomas, KY, and Bruce Robert (Dawn) Holladay of Ft Mitchell, KY; and grandchildren Morgan, Meredith, Evan, Emerson, Paige and Brett.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m., Friday, August 9, 2013 at The Hard Rock Café’ in Shawnee United Methodist Church.
