Ronald N. McClung, 77, of Lima died Feb. 19, at 2:19 p.m. at home surrounded by his family. He was born Nov. 15, 1937 to the late Herman B. and Blanche M. Layman McClung. Ronnie married his high school sweetheart, Ruth Ann Keyes, Dec. 27, 1959 in Clarksburg, WV after an 8 year courtship. They just celebrated their 55th anniversary.
Ron was a veteran, serving in the National Guard and Army. He was a tank commander receiving many medals in marksmanship. He attended Morgantown University and the University of Cincinnati, receiving a degree in commercial design. Ron had his own design studio RM Design, where he designed many of the commercial signs in the Lima area and Columbus. He was still creating until this time last year. Other than family, Ron loved his cat Callie, John Wayne movies, Buckeye and Steeler football and humor. He loved to laugh, whether he was the joke teller or the listener. Ron kept his sense of humor to the very end.
Ron and Ruth have 2 daughters: Cathy Hovest of Florida, Carrie (Rod, more than a son-in-law… a son) Nungester, 3 grandchildren: Sarah (Jason) Morlock, Amanda Bradley and Jacob Reed, and “Papa Bear, Papa Ron, Mr. Wonderful” has 9 great grandchildren: Faith & Noah Dickman, Gage, Shay and Branson Morlock, Devon Warnement, Dillon Coulter, Quincy McDonald and Ava Reed.
Following Ron’s wishes, there will be no public services. The family asks that memorial contributions be made to any veteran’s association.
