Ruth A. Morningstar, age 79 of rural Wapakoneta, passed at 11:59 a.m., Friday, July 1, 2022 at Lima Memorial Hospital. She was born August 16, 1942 in Van Wert, Ohio to the late Melvin Clay Shaner and Edna Fern Pate Banks. On November 25, 1961 she married John D. “Jack” Morningstar who passed January 5, 2020.
Mrs. Morningstar retired as a postal clerk with the Wapak Post Office and was a member of the Uniopolis United Methodist Church. Ruth had also worked at ARK of Sweets, S.S. Kresge’s Five and Dime both of Lima; and the Lima Telephone Company as a switch board operator. She loved baking cakes and is well known for spreading cheer by sending cards to everyone for birthdays, holidays, anniversaries and just to let people know she was thinking of them.
She is survived by 3 children – Kristine S Morningstar of Lima; Keith A. Morningstar of Galloway; Lyn A. Morningstar of Wapakoneta; a bonus daughter – Deanne Turlis O’Connell of Washington; 2 grandchildren – Jared Morningstar and Allison Sharaf; 3 great grandchildren – Olivia, Naveed, and Piper; and a brother-in-law – David Kimmey of Van Wert.
She was preceded in death by a son – Larry Morningstar; a grandson – Anthony Morningstar; a brother – Harold Shaner and a sister – Janet Kimmey.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home.
Funeral services will begin 4:00 p.m., Wednesday at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville. Chaplain Nathan Tucker will officiate. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery, near Uniopolis.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Uniopolis Volunteer Fire Department or the Uniopolis United Methodist Church.
The family is so thankful for the extra care, love and support from Dr. Edward Tremoulis, the Putnam County Hospice, and Deb Stonebraker who cared for Ruth and was an extension of the family.
