Ruth Ann Brownell, age 80 of Lima, died Wednesday, February 16, 2011 in Lima Memorial Health Care Systems after a short illness. She was born February 6, 1931 in Lima, Ohio. She is the daughter of Nathan J. and Lela Springer Barnes. Both parents are deceased. On September 12, 1948 she married Richard Allen Brownell, Sr., who survives.
Mrs. Brownell was a homemaker and attended Spencerville High School. She was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church in Lake Wales, Florida. For 15 years she had held a part in the Black Hills Passion Play in Lake Wales, Florida. While living here she attended the Lima Baptist Temple. She was a member of the Red Hat Club, enjoyed camping and traveling, and cherished her kitty Ming. She will be remembered for being a loving wife of 62 years, the “Worlds Best Mom”, and loving grandmother.
Survivors include 2 sons – Richard Allen (Roberta Lynne) Brownell, Jr. of Lompoc, California; John Brownell of Lima; 6 grandchildren – Jeffrey, Kristi, Steven, Thomas, Stephanie, and Tiffany; 9 great grandchildren – Dalia, Xsavier, Azalea, Jhordai, Jeanie, Isabella Emma, Lela, and Richard III; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son – Robert Brownell; a granddaughter – Jean Ann Brownell; 2 sisters – Eloise “Sis” Witherow Kemp and Claira “Tommy” Thomas.
Funeral services will begin 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 19, 2011 in Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville. The Rev. Gary Homan will officiate. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery North of Uniopolis.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Friday at the funeral home and one hour prior to services Saturday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of donor’s choice.
