Ruth E. Frobase, age 91 of Elida, died at 5:41 p.m., Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at her residence. She was born September 18, 1920 in Lima, Ohio. She is the daughter of the late Acada J. and Olive M. Barnett Shindledecker. On January 16, 1938 she married Franklin W. Frobase who died May 9, 1997.
Mrs. Frobase graduated Lima South High School in 1938. She was a member of the Central Christian Church and the Presbyterian Church in Venice, Florida.
When Ruth’s husband served in WWII (1942-1944) she worked at Westinghouse, Small Motor Division, and at Retail Credit Company (later known as Equifax) where she wrote insurance reports.
She restarted Welcome Wagon in 1949 after training in New York. She held this position until 1952, when she began making good-will calls in the Lima and surrounding area for The Leader Department Store.
In 1954, after obtaining her real estate license, she was a local realtor in Lima for 30 years, retiring from the Gooding Company in 1985.
She volunteered at both Lima Memorial and St. Rita’s Hospitals and with mobile meals, and was a docent Emeritus at Allen County Meseum.
She enjoyed oil and water color painting, writing short stories and poems, several of which were published, swimming, and traveling. She visited most of the U.S. states, including Hawaii and Alaska, and traveled with her granddaughter, Debra, to England. Her continuing hobby was Bridge, and she always enjoyed a challenge at the Scrabble board.
After her husband was deceased she moved to Venice, Florida to be near the water and enjoy the warm weather, where she resided for 7 years, returning to Lima in 2003, where she enjoyed her family and friends.
She is survived by 4 children – James L. (Jean) Frobase of Indian Lake, OH; Deanne L. (William) Miller of New Albany, OH; Steven R. Frobase of Lima, OH; Brian J. (Connie) Frobase of Elida, OH; 9 grandchildren – Debra (James) Dunkerley of Westerville, OH; Julie (John) Ziegler of Lexington, KY; Michael (Pam) Zahn of Pickerington, OH; Michelle (Gene) Altenburger of Maumee, OH; Allison (Ken) Tuller of Huntersville, NC; Andrea (David) Ibach of Westerville, OH; Jason Frobase of Hilton Head, SC; Brent (Nikki) Frobase of Delphos, OH; Elena (Doug) Rahrig of Delphos, OH; 16 great grandchildren; and a brother – Richard (Jean) Decker of Anchorage, Alaska.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.
