Sam L. Jackson, age 51 of rural Wapakoneta, died at 5:52 a.m., Monday, August 1, 2016 at St. Rita’s Medical Center. He was born April 10, 1965 in Lima, Ohio to Dale L. and Mary J. Marlatt Jackson. His father preceded him in death and his mother survives in Wapakoneta.
Sam was an independent monument engraver who formerly worked with Woodlawn Monuments. He loved to spend time with his two daughters who he was very proud of. His hobbies included bow hunting, fishing, gardening, and spending time outdoors. He enjoyed watching the Buckeyes and exploring history, especially American Indian history.
Other survivors include his daughters – Brionna and Makenna Jackson with his former wife Amy Helmlinger Mercer of Elida; sisters and brothers – – Cindy (Harvey) Stowell of Clinton, Wisconsin; Tom (Jan) Jackson of Wapakoneta; Susie (Bill) Maize of Bluffton; Polly Garmatter of Cridersville; and Andrew (Crystal) Jackson of Lima; 17 nieces and nephews; 15 great nieces and nephews; close friends – Jeff Taviano, Steve Taviano, Wes Bice, Jeff Sorgen, and Keith Horner.
Funeral services will begin 9:30 a.m., Friday, August 5, 2016 at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville. His brother-in-law – Bill Maize will officiate. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m., and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Thursday, August 4, 2016 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home on behalf of the family to help defray funeral cost.
The family thanks the staff of St. Rita’s Medical Center for their special care and attention to Sam and a special thank you to Kelly, the ICU nurse.
