Terry J. Staas age 81, of Lima passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2022 at St. Rita’s Medical Center. He was born August 1, 1941 in Lima to the late Ozro George ‘Jake’ Staas and Dollie Mae (Truesdale) Baker. He was formerly married to Marilyn Baker and later married Loretta Derringer who preceded him in death.
Terry graduated from Lima Senior High School in 1959 and served in the U. S. Navy for four years immediately following. T. J. retired from BP Chemical where he had been a maintenance scheduler. He loved Beer Barrel Pizza and meeting the guys there for lunch. He enjoyed watching the Reds and Yankees and was an Ohio State football fan.
Survivors include children: Deron Staas of Rockford, IL, Derek Staas of Wapak, Tricia (James) Rodgers of Glenelg, MD and a stepson Michael Derringer of Forest, OH; grandchildren Amanda (Luke) Uncapher and Alexander Rodgers; 2 great grandchildren and siblings: William Staas of Tucson, AR, Dorothy (Don) Harshe of Findlay, Patti Wallace of Washington state, half brother Doug Staas of Florida, his girlfriend Vicki Dunifon of Lima and a special neighbor Janet Acheson of Lima.
He was preceded in death by a brother Carl Staas and a half brother Robert Hartman.
A gathering will be held Saturday, Feb. 4, 2023 at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville from 2 to 4 p.m. Military rites will be observed at 4 p.m. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date.
