Obituary

Terry Lee Lewis, 67, died June 14 at 10:00 p.m. at home after a hard-fought battle with cancer.

He was born March 12, 1944 in Wyandot, Michigan to James Oliver Lewis, who preceded him in death, and Mabel Marie (Fantz) who survives. On August 1, 1970 he married Margaret Anne Wenzel who survives in Lima.

Terry was a graduate of Shawnee High School and Ohio Northern University. He taught 7th and 8th grade social studies and math in the Allen East Schools for 31 years. During that time he coached varsity and JV football, freshman boys’ basketball, 7th and 8th grade boys’ and girls’ basketball, varsity and junior high track, and served as a cheerleader advisor. In the community for his children he coached little league baseball, Quilna midget football, and AAU girls’ basketball. After retiring from Allen East, he worked for MediLab as Transportation Supervisor until illness forced him to retire. He was an active member of the First Evangelical & Reformed Church. He served on the Consistory as Elder and Deacon, taught adult and high school Sunday School classes, served as Sunday School Superintendent, supervised Junior Church classes and provided the children’s sermon for many years. He also taught classes for the Ohio State Retirement Education Program, and presented several programs of “Stand up History” for service groups. His great joys in life were his family, sports and fishing.

Survivors include two sons, Grant L. (Jennifer) Lewis of Pataskala, Ohio and Dwight A. Lewis (fiancé, Shawna Barhorst) of Hume; a daughter, Amanda Dablemont (Jacob) of Columbia, Missouri; three grandchildren, Kenya, Matthew, and Mali Lewis, a brother, Larry L. Lewis of The Villages, Florida; six nieces and nephews, and thousands of students whose lives were enriched by his teaching and coaching over his 31 years in education.

Viewing hours will be Friday, June 17 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm and 6:00-8:00 pm at the Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, in Cridersville.
