Velma C. Mayer Geyer, age 91, of Lima died 12:40 p.m., Sunday July 10, 2011 at the Wapakoneta Manor Nursing Home. She was born Oct. 29, 1919 in Shawnee Twp. Allen County to Franklin and Merlie Thompson Hinkle. She married Wilbur Virgil ‘Toot’ Mayer Feb. 18, 1941 and died Sept. 18, 1982. She later married Kelcey Phillip Geyer April 8, 1994 who also preceded her in death Feb. 25, 1995.
Mrs. Geyer was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church and had worked at Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen II until the age of 89. She had been a Stephens Minister and a member of Kindred Clowns.
Survivors include 7 children: James E. (Vicki) Mayer of Lima, Jeannie (Roger) Fischbach of Raleigh, NC, George (Anne) Geyer of Virginia Beach, VA, Roger Geyer, Iraq, Rick (Cindy) Geyer, of Botkins, Anita (Rick) Ambos, of Botkins and Scott Sollmann of Boca Raton, FL; 18 grandchildren: Staff Sgt. Christopher (Lori)Couchot, Jennifer Couchot, Anne Frederikson, Adam & Seth Geyer, Leah Reyes, Kane & Rory Geyer, Brandie Sweany, Dana Geyer, Hannah & Heath Geyer, April Mitchell, Kelly Steinke, Renee Ambos, Douglas Mayer, Kjarista (Kirk) Busch, Jeffrey (Chanda) Mayer and 24 great grandchildren: Delaney & Abigail Chewning, Aiden, Gavin & Trevor Couchot, Vyette, Jordyn & Marisa Mayer, Kolier Busch, Jacob, Alannah & Berend Mayer; Amanda & Macy Frederkson, Noah & Jacob Geyer, Henry, Caleb & Isaac Reyes, Kellan & Lainie Geyer, Mary & Theron Geyer and Winsloh Sweany; a sister Agnes Golden of Cridersville and a brother-in-law Charles Delong of Cridersville.
She was preceded in death by 2 brothers: Don (Karen) Hinkle, Clyde Hinkle and 2 sisters: Ruby Watterson Delong and Beulah Putt.
The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Wed. at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home Cridersville. Funeral service will begin 11:00 a.m., Thursday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church with Pastor James C. Couser officiating and burial will be in St. Matthew Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Matthew Church.
