Vera M. (Simpkins) Jackson, 83, of Owenton, Ky, formerly of Lima, died December 23, 2015, at the UK Medical Center in Lexington, Ky.
She was born to Elmer & Floy (Smith) Simpkins December 16, 1932 in Perry Township, Oh. She graduated in 1950 from Shawnee High School. On July 3, 1952, she married Richard P. Jackson. They were married 50 yrs when he died January 27, 2003. Also preceding her in death in 2009 was her sister, Doris (Simpkins) Bowsher.
Vera owned (with Richard) and operated Jackson’s Elmview Hardware for many years. Following their move to Kentucky she worked for the Census Bureau and later for Research Triangle Institute as a Field Supervisor. She loved reading, quilting, gardening but most of all her family.
She is survived by her 5 children, Beverly (Don) Marshall, of Dayton, Oh, Barry Jackson, of Owenton, Ky, Laura Jackson, of Erlanger, Ky, Nancy (Mark) Benken, of Milford, Oh, and Kent Jackson, of Sparta, Ky. Her 6 grandchildren; Melissa Marshall, Suzanne (Ken) Sheppard, Michael Marshall, Justin (Lauren) Patterson, Lindsay Patterson, & Megan Jackson; and 5 great grandchildren; Liam and Aiden Sheppard, Adriana and Fiona Patterson & Brielle Woodruff.
Also surviving are her brother, Don (Sharon) Simpkins, brother-in-law Ross Bowsher, brother-in-law Dean (Mae) Jackson as well as numerous nieces & nephews.
Memorial Service will begin at 11 am Sat. Jan. 2, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Cridersville. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church.
