Vera Thomas Evans, age 98 of Cridersville, died at 7:50 a.m., Monday, December 14, 2015 at Otterbein Retirement Home. She was born December 20, 1916 in Jennings Township, Putnam County, Ohio to the late James Garfield and Cora Leona Sherrick Thomas. On September 21, 1935 she married Ernest C. Evans who died October 8, 1991.
Mrs. Evans attended grade school at Rimer, Ohio; graduated from Vaughnsville High School, Ohio and attended Asbury Collage in Wilmore, Kentucky. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin, in Oshkosh, Wisconsin Campus with a B.S. degree and a Master Degree in Elementary Education and a Minor in Library Science. She taught Kindergarten in Lincoln Elementary School in Appleton, Wisconsin for many years.
She attended the Ottawa River Christian Church in Rimer, Ohio. A former member of the Indianola Church of Christ, Columbus, Ohio; First United Methodist Church in Appleton, Wiscosin, First United Methodist Church in Winter Haven, Florida where she and her husband resided for many years. At the time of her death, she was a member of the Cridersville United Methodist Church. Besides the interest and love for her family, she was interested in music, sewing, and loved to cook and entertain.
Survivors include a daughter – Barbara (Ron) Roberts of Mt. Dora, Florida; six grandchildren – Raequel Roberts of Houston, Texas; Jeff (Cathy) Roberts of Phoenix, Arizonia; Paula (Lee) Larson of Park City, Utah; Clarissa Lamont (Russ) Kivler of Chatham, New Jersey; Elizabeth Lamont (Dan) Mendoza of Larkspur, California; and Mairi Lamont of Washington, D.C.; eight great grandchildren – Morgan, Sydney, and Shelby Roberts; Andrew, Dane, and Max Larson; Peyton, Austin, and Hunter Kivler; Logan and Quinn Mendoza; a nephew – Charles W. Thomas of Bluffton, South Carolina.
Mrs. Evans was preceeded in death by her parents, three brothers – David, Dale, and Devere Thomas; a daughter – Madalyn Evans Lamont; and a nephew – Michael L. Thomas.
A memorial services will begin 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 2, 2015 at Cridersville United Methodist Church. Rev. Casey Ann Irwin
will officiate. Burial of her cremated remains will be 3:00 p.m., Saturday, April 2, 2016 at Pike Run Cemetery in Gomer, Ohio.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Otterbein-Cridersville Retirement or Cridersville United Methodist Church.
