Virginia I. Finch, age 88, of Cridersville died 1:15 p.m., Tuesday April 19 at Lima Memorial Health Systems. She was born Dec. 6, 1922 in Lima to Samuel I. and Ella Mae Reed Binkley. She married Mark Twain Finch, Jr. June 19, 1942 and he preceded her in death Dec. 16, 1998.
Mrs. Finch had been a homemaker and member of First Church of Christ Scientist. She was a former member of Sweet Adelines and Mother Singers. She was a member of American Legion Post 96 Auxiliary. She had worked at the Lima Tank Depot checking radios during WW II and had been a Cafeteria cashier at Shawnee High School, manager of diner at the corner of Metcalf & Vine Street in Lima. She was a loving and devoted mother who cherished family and relatives. Loved gardening and watching her flowers grow every year.
Survivors include 3 sons: Billy L. (Virginia) Finch of Naples, FL, Ronald D. Finch of Cridersville, Mark T. ‘Tom’ Finch of Jacksonville, FL, a daughter Rebecca J. (Thomas) Singleton of Columbus, OH; 6 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 2 sisters: Janet Winings of Midland, TX and Louine Smith of Lima; 2 aunts Treva Lapham of Elida and Margery Decker of Lima and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by 3 brothers: Billy, Virgil and Harmon Binkley; 4 sisters: Betty Byers, Gloria Taylor, Jollie Maxwell and Barbara Rhinock.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
