Walter K. Smith, Sr., age 84 of Lima, died at 6:18 a.m., Saturday at Lima Memorial Hospital. He was born June 24, 1933 in Johnstown, PA; to the late Selwyn T. and Anna Dorothy Sworb Smith, Sr. On January 5, 1952 he married Elizabeth I. Nagy, who survives in Lima.
Mr. Smith worked over 30 years with Ford Motor Company where his favorite position was on the Rod Line. He loved watching the Kentucky Derby and doing some betting on horse racing. He was an avid Notre Dame football fan and enjoyed feeding the birds, especially with hot dog buns which they seemed to like the best.
Also surviving are his children: Shirley (John) Basham of Martinsville, IN; Walter K. (Doris) Smith, Jr. of Lima; Gary (Angie) Smith of Lima; Theresa (Darren) Dew of Lima; 15 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 4 step great grandchildren; and 1 step great great grandchild; 1 brother; and 2 sisters.
He was preceded in death by a son – Anthony Smith who died March 30, 2017; 4 brothers; and 2 sisters.
No public services or visitations are planned.
