William “Bill” Shaffer 86, of Elida died of cancer at 12:30 a.m., Monday July 27, 2015 at St. Rita’s Medical Center, surrounded by his entire family. He was born April 20, 1929 to William Austin and Mary Elizabeth Long Shaffer, who preceded him in death. On Dec. 2, 1950 he married Florence Marie Beidelschies who survives.
Bill worked at Teledyne Ohio Steel and was a member of First Missionary Church.
Additional survivors include a son Gordon (Kim) Shaffer, 2 daughters: Debra (Chuck) Hahn and Teresa (Greg) Jenings all of Lima, 7 grandchildren: Lara, Charity, Dyan, Chuck, Gordon Lucia and Angie, s step granddaughters: Amanda and Heather, 8 great grandsons and 7 great granddaughters and a great great granddaughter and a brother-in-law Chuck (Barb) Nagel of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by 2 sisters: Mary Lane and Bonnie Nagel and a brother Ben Shaffer.
The family would like to thank the nurses and caregivers at St. Rita’s for their excellent care.
The family will receive friends noon to 1 p.m. Sat. August 1st at First Missionary Church on Robb Ave. The memorial service will follow at 1 with The Rev. Dr. Timothy White officiating. Memorial contributions may be given to the church.
