William C. ‘Bill’ Benson, age 58 of Lima, died 5:40 a.m., Saturday, December 18, 2010 at St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima, Ohio. He was born March 15, 1952 in Roseburg, Oregon. He is the son of Carl Elmer and Joyce Bartley Benson. Both parents are deceased.
Mr. Benson had taught tennis in various states, and ended up teaching in Columbus, Ohio. He had a great passion for tennis and working with the youth. He was loved by many of the families he taught. Bill enjoyed stumping people with movie trivia. He loved “golden-oldies” music as well as baseball, especially the Yankees. He had a great sense of humor, enjoyed talking to people and making them laugh. He was even able to find humor in his Multiple Sclerosis and did not let it get him down.
He is survived by a wife and caregiver – Sheila Rowe of Lima; a sister Lori Mitchell of Bothel, Washington; and several nieces and nephews.
There are no public services or visitations planned. It was Mr. Benson’s wishes to be cremated.
Memorial contributions may be made to Multiple Sclerosis.
