William “Bill” J. Placie

William ‘Bill’ J. Placie, III, passed at 11:10 p.m., Friday, February 10, 2023, at home with his caring family by his side. He was born July 17, 1953 in Lima, Ohio to the late Robert Jack and Vancine Berryhill Placie.  On March 28, 1978 he married Kathleen ‘Kathy’ M. Phillips, who survives.

Bill retired from construction and inspecting services. He chose for his life to revolve around his family and loved ones. He was passionate about his music and was able to play all string instruments and especially the guitar.  His talents were many; painting, wood working, cooking, and poetry were some. A modern renaissance man: loving to learn random facts, loved to travel and pick up more interesting details. Bill and his wife had great love for the world and shared that love. They would plan camping trips for the whole family, spending time outdoors being together was the best! He will be lovingly remembered for having an open door, being a mentor, a good listener, not passing judgement, and always willing to give of himself.

He was blessed with his loving wife – Kathy Placie;  2 sons – Jon-Henri (Kelli) Placie of Columbus; Jason (Jessica) Gillespie of Columbus; 2 daughters – Amanda (Clint West) Placie-West of Gastonia, NC; Allison (Bryon West) Placie of Columbus; 9 grandchildren; siblings – Teresa (Mike, deceased) Jenkins of Lima; Robert J. (Tammy) Placie of Lima; Jack (Cherie) Placie of Celina; numerous nieces and nephews;  and a faithful father, grandfather figure to many.

An outdoor memorial service will be held in April, sharing memories with the family. Please contact the family for the date and time.
